Like any other trade, renderers or “plasterers” range in the quality of services they provide and there are many inexperienced “dodgy” people and companies that pose as professionals.
Many homeowners are so focused on “how much?” they should spend that they never even consider anything else. This can lead them to hire the wrong company.
Before you ask a renderer these 4 questions, there is ONE IMPORTANT question you need to ask YOURSELF before choosing a rendering company and that is:
“Do I want the cheapest renderer, or the best renderer to work on my home?”
Most people look at price only, but there is so much more than that to consider when hiring a renderer.
A renderer who charges super-low rates simply cannot afford to do proper job that will last. They’ll cut corners by using “weak mixes”, hiring out-sourced and low quality workers, and “rush” the job.
If you want the BEST renderer to work on your home, these are 4 KEY questions you must ask before you hire. With this information, you can make an informed, intelligent decision about choosing the right rendering company for you.
Question #1: Can you please give me references from past clients?
Why should you trust someone you don’t know with your biggest asset?
If a render is consistently completing high quality work and living up to his clients expectations, he should have no trouble giving you recent references of completed jobs with happy customers.
Just casually ask the renderer:
“Can I please have some contact references from previous customers of yours in the last month and their address so I can see the job.”
If the company fails to provide this or seems uncomfortable then ask yourself,
“if this company can’t give me one good reference from the past month, what are the chances I’m going to be happy with then and the finished product?”
It’s always a red flag if the renderer fails to provide you with the credentials of recent previous clients to call. If they provide you with a list of references, be sure to call each one individually and ask important questions to garner an honest account of their experience. Ask about experience and any problems they might have encountered.
Question #2: What happens if I’m not happy with some of the work?
The truth is, no matter how good they are, not 1 company in any industry ever completes a perfect job, every job, 100% of the time. After all, were all “human”.
You might notice something after home is renderer that the renderer has missed. What happens if the renderer decides your being “picky” or “difficult”? You may be in store for arguments and frustration.
Asking the question “what happens if I’m not happy with some of the work?”, before the job is started gives you an indication of how the contractor handles these kind of situations.
At Perth Render, 100% Customer Satisfaction is our goal. If there is ANYTHING you pick up that we have missed or your unhappy about, we will rectify it, immediately, with no arguments.
Question #3: What written Guarantees and Warranties do you offer?
If you want to protect your biggest investment, your home, you’ll want some assurances in the form of guarantees or warranties IN WRITING.
Here’s what you should look for in a great warranty:
- Waterproofing Warranty
- Workmanship Warranty
- Start and Finish date Guarantee
- Satisfaction Guarantee
At Perth Render we ‘ve included all of the above Guarantees and Warranties in to cover you and your investment in every way we know possible. With Guarantees and Warranties, you can be 100% sure your render will look great and last.. And if there’s anything else you’re concerned about, we are happy to address those for you in writing.
Question #4: Are you fully Insured?
There are 2 types of insurance a render MUST have to operate.
1. Comprehensive Public Liability, which protects your property from damage by the contractor. A million dollar limit in liability coverage is the minimum any rendering contractor should be carrying.
2. Workers Compensation Insurance, which protects the workers and you(from liability) while they are working on your property. Worker’s compensation insurance is costly, so most companies go without to save costs.
As a consumer, you should never consider working with a contractor that does not have these insurances in place.
Perth Render is fully covered by AAMI Public Liability and all workers and contractors are covered by Personal Injury Insurance. You will never be liable should an accident happen and if there is any damage to your home our insurance will cover any repairs.
If you receive positive answers to these 4 questions, then you know you have a renderer you can be confident in. Do your due diligence! With the information you just learned, you know more about how to choose a renderer than 95% of the homeowners out there!!
By asking these questions you will be able to gather all the information you need to make an informed, intelligent decision.
